Mirza Fakhrul Announces Thakurgaon-1 as His Final Election Contest, Shares Personal Reflections

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced that he will contest his last election for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Mirza Fakhrul posted a statement on his verified Facebook page, saying:

“By the grace of Almighty Allah, BNP has nominated me for the Thakurgaon-1 constituency. I express my gratitude and thanks to Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and all the male and female leaders of the party. I extend heartfelt thanks to all party activists for standing by me throughout my life.”

Personal Reflections on Political Life

He shared some personal memories, saying:

“Those of us who have dedicated our entire lives to politics and been to jail, we all have a story; many people do not know it. When I decided to return to politics in 1987, my two daughters were very young and studied in Dhaka. My wife was quite young; she was initially stunned, realizing the terrifying uncertainty we were stepping into. She took our two daughters to school and to the doctor by herself. I remember my elder daughter was going to have an operation, and I was on the road all night, driving to Dhaka so I could be by her side. It was so painful; I was in the mosque when her operation was taking place. I will tell these stories another day, Insha’Allah, if God wills. Thousands of our activists have stories like this.”

Message to Workers and Nominees

Mirza Fakhrul stated that this will be his final election:

“This election is my last election.”

He offered a message to those who did not receive nominations:

“Have faith, those who did not receive nominations; Insha’Allah, the party will give you due responsibility and honor.”

He concluded by asking for prayers:

“I ask for prayers from all of you for me and for every activist of our party. We will all stand by you and work together, Insha’Allah.”

The BNP has announced a preliminary list of candidates for 237 seats in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
